Don't be fooled. Only the real old timers will make any money out of this. So you will still have flight of talent from VMware. Also their top management is pretty junior. Some of their top product management guys have had most of their experience AT Vmware. Hence why there is no clear strategy in desktop (though the CEO has been harping on this in nearly every public announcement), no clear way to address Microsoft and Xen (open source), and no way to explain why the heck they are spending oodles of money for a new campus (the curse of the new campus in the Valley is well known).

So it seems only Tucci makes out. Keeps wolves at bay. Everyone else gets pretty much the same ol.

@ChipX86: Great, didn't realize that until now :) Still shows that you can hide stuff very well in the sight of everyone... (otherwise this would have been anounced / be easier to activate)

So where is your secret switch for the Coherence mode on Linux? ;p

suka: It has been for a long time now.

Preed: Yep, you're right, they did realize their stock is worthless. This is why I'm so excited. We finally have our own stock symbol that has a potential for growth.

I hate to be the party-pooper[1], but this is likely because EMC has figured out their stock is basically worthless[2], and since VMware is really the only business they have that's a) sexy, and b) relevant, it's a hard sell trying to 1) hire and 2) keep people when their friends are getting hired at Google, who can offer stock that's worth $400+ a share and still going up.

I can't say that I blame them, and I'm happy that you (and crew) may finally get some options that are worth something, but... I can't say I find the gesture all that impressive from an executive leadership standpoint.

I guess when you constantly fall asleep at the wheel, the corrections to get back on the road become increasingly erratic.

[1] Aren't I always...
[2] Where I define "worthless" as "<a href="http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=EMC&t=5y" rel="nofollow">not having moved anywhere in the past five years</a>"
