Ahh, Nostalgia

I think there’s something wrong with me. With the help of Mike Hearn, I now have After Dark running in Linux, through xscreensaver. I couldn’t be happier.

Right now, it’s very hacky, and requires using Win98/ME dlls in wine, instead of the wine versions. Also, you need a very hacky script to launch After Dark screen savers. On top of that, you can’t get a preview in xscreensaver. Instead, it goes full screen. I’m working on solutions to this, and when I get it working in a satisfactory way, I’ll post a mini-HOWTO.

Yeah, there is, but it’s nowhere near as good as the one in After Dark. The graphics aren’t as good, no catchy tune (which I usually disable, but it’s fun regardless), and they don’t dance around. If you haven’t see After Dark 4.0’s Flying Toasters, you haven’t seen flying toasters how they’re meant to be 🙂

Could you please tell me how you did it? To have After Dark running on linux – and through xscreensaver – is something that I would love to have so much, it’s something that I have wanted to do for a couple of years now!
